I finally did get to try the mountain laurel variety of River Soap, and I love it. It smells just wonderful, all woodsy with bay and a hint of nutmeg. Plus the bar is a beautiful deep green color, dyed with plant chlorophyll so they tell me. On the negative side, I have discovered that because of the blade design and also the way the blade fits into the handle, the Preserve razor is difficult to clean. So it works fine for the first few minutes, but then as it needs to be washed it works less and less well, and I haven't figured out an effective way to remedy that. It's a waste of water or a waste of tissue to wipe it with either way, and neither method is particularly helpful. Both are a bit dangerous since one has to detach the blade to get a decent angle for cleaning. I must admit that since my aunt was kind enough to send me a care package of Mach 3s, I have also lost some enthusiasm for trying. The idea of a recycled/recyclable razor is still a good one, and I still donate my number five plastics to Preserve, but the design flaw should probably be addressed.
