Foods that have specific profiles, like lower fat or lower sodium, serve an important function for people who have cholesterol problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. This is part of what the H in HAES stands for, eating for the reality of your personal health. Unfortunately, since Trader Joe's is required by law to have a cutesy name for anything it sells, it doesn't like to call things 'lower fat' or 'lower sodium,' choosing instead the apoplexy-inducing 'reduced guilt.' For those of us who are committed to not connecting the necessary, soul-fortifying function of eating with either guilt or shame, this causes apoplexy. It's also generally true that foods that are low fat naturally taste way, way better than things that are supposed to have fat in them but have been altered. So when TJ's takes its normal Mac and Cheese and makes a 'reduced guilt' version, they have recourse to two traditional strategies: make the portion smaller (7 ounces versions 10 ounces), and make it so unappealing that even seven ounces seems like too much. I will enjoy almost any kind of mac and cheese, but this one just defeated me. It didn't taste like any one cheese, or even like cheese found in nature. If I had a cholesterol issue I would rather eat their regular version less often than this one regularly.
